Rest: Unlock your spiritual magic

When I was younger, I can remember a saying that stuck with me for a long time. It went something like “You can rest when you are dead”.  I think the person that told me that was implying that you can rest after all the work is done. I did find it hard to swallow though.  What was the purpose for rest and how exactly did we know when all the work would be done? There always seems like there are endless tasks that need to be completed.

I found when I would look at things this way, I would become impatient and worried that I was never accomplishing enough. Not working hard enough and when I would take breaks to rest, I would get into this endless cycle of thinking I was being lazy because more could be done. I had been programmed to believe that working hard was more important than allowing myself to rest.  What I didn’t realize was not allowing for rest pushed me to exhaustion, made me cranky, and sometimes made me physically ill. Many times, I found myself sucked dry by daily life. Always on the go from one task to the next. Never allowing pleasurable rest. The time for when you can rejuvenate your energy so you can show up in the world the best version of yourself. Rest is an act of self-love.

Rest allows:

·       For you to rejuvenate your energy

·       You to hear your inner voice

·       Bring balance into your life

·       Hear guidance from the universe more clearly

·       Experience things that bring us pleasure

Far too often rest is thought of as just sleep. Rest is more than sleep and the type of rest you need will vary from time to time. Incorporating rest is essential for maintaining a healthy wellness routine. Rest is also the time when you can unlock your spiritual magic. It is in the time of rest when the universe takes the wheel and does work behind the scenes. It is in those times we feel like we are doing nothing the most is happening.

There are different ways to experience rest my suggestion is to try some and see what works for you. What allows you to give yourself this act of self-love. Rest should be something pleasurable for you, not something that is forced upon you. Incorporating rest into your lifestyle allows you to unlock your spiritual magic. It allows you to create delightful experiences in your life. It opens space for you to dream, visualize and is part of allowing the universe to work its magic behind the scenes taking the load off your shoulders for a while.

Different forms of rest:

·       Long nap

·       Doing something creative

·       Mediation

·       Sitting in nature

·       Going to a scared place

·       Going for a walk (yes if it brings you peace it is rest)

·       Taking a bath

·       Leaning into your self-care routine

Do not let the hustle and bustle of life steal your joy. Start making rest a priority and unlock your spiritual magic. There will be time to work hard, there will be time to play but if you are not rested are you really going to be fully present?

Life is a path full of small surprises.

For the first time in a long time, the weather was beautiful. It was so nice that I finally decided to go walk this path that is not too far from my home. Honestly, it had been several months since I had stepped a single foot on this path.

When I began to walk this path, I was alone. There was not a single soul in sight. The path was not how I remembered it. The last time I was there it was full of people walking their dogs and talking to one another. I put my earbuds in, put on my music, and started walking down the path. I was focused and determined to make it to the end.

While I was walking my attention kept being drawn to my feet. Every time I would look at my feet, I would see a snail. When I saw the first one, I thought to myself, oh wow look at that snail. Then I saw a second, then a third, by the 7th one I began to think the universe is trying to tell me something.

I am a firm believer that the universe speaks to us through symbolism. We have to be open to receiving the message. The universe was speaking to me and using animals to do it.

At that moment I turned my music down and paid attention to any thought that crossed my mind. At first, there was not much that came to mind. Then suddenly, I saw three cardinals sitting at the edge of that path.

Cardinals have always been a sign for me that I am not alone. I always know when I am in the flow of receiving messages when I see them.

About that time something caught my eye, I looked up into the tree line and saw this bird I had never seen before. It was a huge bird with a redhead. (when I got home I looked the bird up it was a Red Pileated woodpecker.) I had never seen this bird in my life but it was beautiful. I just wish I could have got a picture of it to share with you.

Needless to say, this path was full of small surprises!

After a few moments of admiring the beauty of the moment I continued my way along the path. My mind kept coming back to the snails and woodpecker. What exactly was the universe trying to tell me today.

This led me to think of the attributes of snails and woodpeckers.

The snail:

  • grows a hard shell for protection (tough exterior)

  • they move slow

  • they eat greens and fungi

  • they do not always stay in their shells (gentle vulnerability)

  • they are a known delicacy

  • they have been used as a currency ( a form of abundance)

The woodpecker:

  • works hard and steadily (persistance)

  • has one mate for life (loyalty)

  • full of energy

  • able to overcome obstacles through their determination

  • it has been said that you will see a pileated woodpecker if you are faced with a tough situation, need to come out of your shell, and need a reminder you can overcome anything in your life.

What was the universe saying?

My interpretation:

While I was walking the thought that kept coming into my mind was “Life is a path full of small surprises”. You just have to stop focusing on getting to the end of the path. It is the things we see and experience along the path that bring meaning into our life. Allow the things no matter how big or small bring guidance and wisdom. Allowing you to create a life full of joy, happiness, and abundance.

The snail symbolism was the universe saying:

  • it is ok to take your time and slow down when you need to

  • your tough exterior helps when you need to protect yourself but it is ok to let yourself out of the shell and be vulnerable at times.

  • you can trust yourself to change whatever you want because you can go inward to find your peace and tranquility.

  • The snail has the perfect balance of strength and gentleness and so do you.

The woodpecker symbolism was the universe saying:

  • do not give up

  • it is ok to come out of your shell and be seen

  • steady progress is being made

  • stay focused on your goal and you will achieve it

  • move out of your comfort zone

  • stability comes through mastering your everyday life.

The next time you find that you are faced with tunnel vision only focused on the end of a path or situation allow yourself to slow down. The universe speaks to us in many ways, it is up to us to decipher the message.

You can be tough, yet gentle.

You can have fun, yet be determined.

You can overcome anything by going within and listening to the wisdom that comes to the surface. It is the small surprises along the path that make all the difference.

LOVE YOURSELF MORE…

You would think that loving yourself would be easy. However, it is one of the hardest things you will try to accomplish. We are constantly faced with things that cause us to doubt ourselves and draw attention to insecurities / fears that are held inside. The journey of self-love is a continuous journey. I recently connected with a past life soulmate. Soulmates come in many forms. They can be friends, family members, life partners, and even romantic relationships. While connecting with them a lot of old buried emotions surfaced. Things I thought that I had processed through and overcame. This soulmate said one important thing to me that I will never forget. They said to me the most important thing to remember is no matter what you are faced with you have to love yourself more. I kid you not a day or two later that soulmate was gone again. Only to show up to remind me that I needed to love myself more, put myself and my needs first above all. Although, I felt sadness and a plethora of emotions through the soulmates departure I knew one thing. I had the tools to be able to dust myself off. Show myself some love and move forward finding gratitude in the moment. During this process I found inspiration. Leading to this blog.

15 THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP LOVE YOURSELF MORE

1-      Do Not compare yourself to others: we all have our own lessons and challenges we face. Just because something looks good doesn’t mean that under the surface there are not challenges. You can not be them and they can not be you. There is only one you in this whole entire universe and that is a special thing.

2-      Do not worry about other peoples opinions: Everyone has there own perspective on things. What someone else thinks is non of your buisness. Focus on your truth and what you believe to be true.

3-      Allow yourself to make mistakes: Mistakes are opportunities brought through experience. They allow us to discover what it is we desire or do not desire to create this life time.

4-      Do not be afraid to let people go: We are all hear to experience and learn things in our life time. Allow people to come and go. This allows new experiences and energy to enter your life. Some people are meant for a reason, season or life time.

5-      Process your fears: Processing your fears allow you to face them head on. When you do not allow yourself to process your fears you will find they will manifest in your life through relationships and situations.

6-      Trust yourself and the decisions you are making: Allow yourself to trust that you have the ability to make decisions that are right for you in the moment. If you feel you may have made a choice that throws you out of alignment with your beliefs remember that you can make another choice. Life is a series of choices.

7-      Forgive yourself: Forgive yourself for anything that you are holding on to. Holding on to it only limits you creating blocks and building resentment. Forgiveness allows for better mental, emotional and relationship well-being.

8-      Be honest with yourself: Being honest with yourself allows for awareness. Knowing what your strengths and weaknesses allows you to release judgement for yourself and other peoples judgement become less important

9-      Say no when you need to: One of the hardest word to master is saying no. Saying know allows for you to make yourself and needs a priority first. Saying no doesn’t always mean forever. It could be a no for right now.

10-   Be truly in the present: Being truly in the present allows you to focus on the situation at hand. It can bring clarity and allow you to see the bigger picture of what is really happening.

11-   Give yourself a treat: Treats do not have to be big and extravagant. They can be but do not have to be. Allow yourself to show you how special you are at times.

12-   Accept that some people will not like you: Do you really like everyone? It is OK that some people do not like you. When you focus on everyone liking you, you tend to lose a part of yourself in the process trying to people please.

13-   Feel your feelings: We are souls having a human experience. Part of that is feelings. We all have them. Feelings allow us to identify with the inner working of ourselves and what make us tick.

14-   Stand up for yourself: I feel like this kind of goes with saying no. Standing up for yourself allows for you to create healthy boundaries with in your life and your relationships.

15-   Speak kindly to yourself: I think this is one of the most important things that you can do. Speak to yourself the way you would like others to speak to you. How you speak to yourself is how you allow others to interact with you. It also allows you to experience more self-belief, confidence and happiness, and less stress.

Loving yourself is a continuous job. You can fall into this continuous cycle of beating yourself up, judging yourself and picking yourself apart. Find techniques that assist you in building yourself up. Allowing you to become mindful with how you treat yourself.

If you only remember one thing out of this remember this “LOVE YOURSELF MORE! No matter what is going on around you”

“I AM” THAT IS SOMETHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT.

Over my lifetime I found I was always looking for someone else to tell me what I needed to do, what is right for me, and what I am. It took a long time to see I AM what I AM and that is something to be excited about. It is something that you should be proud of too. It means there are limitless possibilities to what “I AM” can mean for you and in your life. Is that not exciting? The idea is the “I AM” statement allows a person can shape who they are or desire to be at any given moment. It certainly excites me to think we are not bound by what we were and can be whatever “I AM” statement we choose to incorporate into personal beliefs.

The intention for this blog is for bringing the awareness to the statement “I AM” , seeing the power in it.

Ultimately, all of us are who we are and the “I AM” is how each person defines themselves. That no other person really has the power to take that power away unless an individual gives it to another. Do not give your power to another, allow yourself to experience the power of creating what you are. Look at this perspective, if you did something yesterday or experienced something in the past you would not use the words I AM? The use of the “I AM” for a past experience would imply that you are in the present. Therefore you would use words like I was, I did, and I had just to list a few examples. So that means that you have an opportunity to release that which of what you were and accept that which you are with the “I AM” mindset.

Be proud of the “I AM”. The “I AM” means you are breathing, feeling, able to make new choices, and able to create a better today or tomorrow. The ability to identify the “I AM” mindset comes with great power. Working with others I have found that some people really benefit from the “I AM” affirmations. These affirmations allow them to speak positively into themselves assisting with replacing negative self-talk. I encourage positive affirmations but I also encourage the power of understanding that of which you are (self-awareness).

This is how you can start using the I AM in your daily routine:

  • Sit with yourself somewhere where you will not be disturbed

  • Take some deep breaths and allow yourself to be very present

  • Remind yourself “I am perfectly imperfect”, “I am having here having my own experience”, and “I am capable of shaping my own experience”.

  • Ask yourself what do I see myself as using the “I AM” statement

o   This may be emotion “I AM SAD” ETC…

o   This may also be a quality you feel is inside of you “I AM SMART, LOVING, GENEROUS”

  • Look at your list of “I AM” statements. Do they all support the feeling that you are looking to feel? Do they support what you are trying to create?

  • Pay attention to the feeling you get when you hear yourself say the statements. Do you believe them?

  • After you sort through your statements which ones can you remove and replace with something more supportive?

  • If you do not feel or believe your “I am” statements what actions can you take to help yourself believe them? The actions you put behind your statements can greatly assist in reinforcing them and develop them as your beliefs.

When you begin to believe the power of the “I AM” statement and allow yourself to be proud of who you are in the moment it is likely you will begin to feel more fulfilled and it will pour out into other aspects of your life. Here is some final food for thought.  The “I AM” you are today probably was not the “I AM” you were yesterday, and surely doesn’t have to be the “I AM” you are after you read this or tomorrow and that is something to get excited about.
